Below are links to recordings of the Schuylkill Cossacks Balalaika Band (SCBB) playing selections
from the PennBO repertoire. The SCBB was an offshoot of PennBO musicians. Steve always choose
simple, direct, and interesting music. As a result his groups tended to play much better than their
amateur, and some cases musically untrained background would have initially suggested.

                              This was his genius.

SCBB through the Years

The "Black Shawl" Conservation Project:
The song "Black Shawl" was a favorite of the Philadelphia area
church balalaika orchestras. Almost forgotten everywhere else, this
was a theme song for PennBO. We are trying to reconstruct the
lyrics. If you have any knowledge on this matter please contact me
or Brian McHugh. Below are links to an instrumental version, a vocal
version, the sheet music, and a preliminary attempt to reconstruct
the lyrics.
